Joker Claws His Way Back to the Top of the Box Office

Joker claws his way back to the top of the Box Office

It looks as if Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has clawed his way past Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil to retake the top spot at the box office in its fourth weekend of release with $18.9 million domestically, where it stands at $277.5 million total. The Warner Bros. film directed by Todd Phillips, which cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $60-70 million, has now taken in nearly $850 million worldwide, besting Wonder Woman‘s $821 million tally. It will likely take Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s $873.6 million landmark soon.

Meanwhile Disney’s Maleficent just narrowly missed holding the top spot in its second weekend, taking second place with an estimated $18.5 million for a domestic total of $65.4 million and 93.5 million worldwide.

MGM’s The Addams Family also rose up a notch to third place with $11.7 million, taking it’s domestic cume to $72.8 million and a worldwide total of $84 million.

Sony’s Zombieland: Double Tap was close behind The Addams’ at #4, raking in $11.6 million for a domestic total of $47 million and $63.6 million worldwide for the horror comedy sequel.

STXfilms’s horror thriller Countdown opened at #5 with an estimated $9 million debut, not bad considering it only cost around $6 million to make and should churn a profit. In sixth place was Screen Gems’s cop thriller Black and Blue, which took in an estimated $8.3 million.
