Celebrations along with massive preparations are on for the glorious 550th Prakash Parv of the first Sikh Guru and founder of the faith Guru Nanak Dev. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Kartarpur corridor today which will take pilgrims from India across the border to Pakistan to one of their most sacred shrines.
The corridor will connect the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab with Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur, just 4 kilometres from the International Border, located at Narowal district of Pakistan's Punjab province.
Prime Minister will dispatch the first lot of pilgrims to visit Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan's Punjab province on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev that falls on November 12.
On the occasion, many programs are being organised at the historic Sultanputr Lodhi. Union minister for I&B Prakash Javadekar inaugurated a multi media exhibition in Sultanpur Lodhi. He also visited the historic Gurdwara there. I&B Minister said that with the opening of the corridor a long cherished dream of sikh community has been realised.
India and Pakistan after tough negotiations signed an agreement last month, paving the way for the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor. The agreement will allow 5,000 Indian pilgrims daily to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. In a U-turn, Pakistan has conveyed to India that it will charge the USD 20 facilitation fee from each pilgrim.
