Keeping commitments made in BJP's Sankalp Patra, The government has approved the extension of Prime Minister Kisan Sammaan yojana to all farmers. Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting in New Delhi, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, now nearly 14 crores 50 lakh farmers will benefit from the scheme.
PM Modi said over three crore farmers have been benefited so far. Under the PM-Kisan scheme, six thousand rupees per year is being given in three instalments to the farmers. The beneficiaries should be in the age group of 18 to 40 years. Under this scheme, the farmers will get a minimum fixed pension of 3 thousand rupees on attaining the age of 60.
In another decision, the Union Cabinet approved a path-breaking scheme that will provide pension cover to crores of farmers. The Central Government would incur an expenditure of around 10,774 crore rupees for a period of 3 years.
The Cabinet has cleared a pension scheme for small traders. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javdekar said, the scheme is meant to provide universal social security to all shopkeepers, retail traders and self-employed persons.
The Cabinet also cleared a special scheme for Control of Foot and Mouth Disease and Brucellosis.diseases which commonly afflict livestock.
A pension scheme for traders also got Cabinet's nod, three crore retail traders and shop keepers stand to benefit from this move.
They will be given a minimum monthly pension of three thousand rupees on attaining the age of 60 years.
