Tests were carried out after 15 crew members started showing mild flu-like symptoms. Further tests were being carried out and the 15 crew members were isolated in their cabins. Staff who had left the ship since April 28 have been informed and told to self-quarantine at home.
All 2,899 crew members are to remain on board and in quarantine until further notice. Some of the crew members had been transferred to the ship from other cruise liners ahead of being taken back to their home countries. They had all undergone medical examinations and had not shown any symptoms of COVID-19, the lung disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
The entire crew had already been in isolation on board for over four weeks, since the last guests departed on March 23. Crew members have not been able to return home because of closed ports and bans on people leaving ships.
